August Edition: A Season of Rooting

Hello,

There are some seasons of life when what we have been quietly tending within ourselves begins asking to take form around us.

Lately, I have been thinking a lot about home.

Not simply the place where we live, but the feeling of it.

That quiet sense of arrival. The exhale that comes when you know you can be exactly as you are. When you are welcome as you are. When you belong without having to earn your place.

Home can be a place, of course. But I feel that it can also be a person. A relationship. A moment of deep presence. The feeling of being held by your own life.

I have been fortunate to experience home in many places and in many forms.

And especially over this past year, I have been tending more intentionally to that feeling within myself.

Learning what it means to stay close to myself. To soften into my own presence. To create more space for what is true. To feel more fully at home in who I am.

It has been some of the most meaningful work of my life.

And that's why this next chapter feels so deeply aligned.

At the end of October, my husband and I will be moving to the Lakes Region area of New Hampshire.

We have moved many times over the years. Each place has taught us something, given us something, shaped us in ways I am deeply grateful for. But for some time now, we have both felt a growing desire to root.

We are ready for land. For quiet. For immersion in nature and the wild beauty of the changing seasons. For a slower rhythm of life. For a place our family can grow into. A place where the medicine we offer can expand as a natural extension of the land and life surrounding us.

We are ready to allow the sense of home we have spent years cultivating within ourselves and with one another to finally stretch beyond us, take up space, and become something we can actually live inside of.

Not asking a place to give us belonging.

Building from the belonging that is already here.

And of course, this transition is bittersweet. Maryland has held so much for us. Relationships, memories, growth, work we deeply love, and people who have become an incredibly meaningful part of our lives. There will be more time to honor all of that before we go.

For now, we are allowing ourselves to feel the excitement of what is beginning. The possibility of putting down roots. Of creating a home that reflects the life we have been growing toward from the inside out.

And as I sit with all of this, I’d like to invite you to reflect for yourself, too:

What have you cultivated inwardly that is ready to take form in your life?

Maybe you have learned to trust yourself, and you finally feel ready to make a different, more aligned choice. Maybe you have discovered what peace feels like in your body, and you are no longer willing to tolerate relationships or rhythms that compromise it. Maybe you are remembering your own worth, and are beginning to give yourself permission to receive more. Or maybe a longing you have carried in the depths of your heart is starting to feel less like a dream, and more like something you are ready to create.

There comes a moment in our lives when what we know inside can no longer stay there.

When it is time for that inner knowing to inspire the way we live.

Through the choices we make. The way we speak. What we create. What we are willing to leave behind. What we finally allow ourselves to move toward.

Whenever that moment comes for you, I hope you have the awareness to recognize it, and the courage to live it.

With love and reverence,Dr. Marisa
